At all of our workshops the question on everyone’s minds is… “What kind of funding can I get from the Government”?
And fair enough, too. If there is money out there for starting, growing or running a business, why wouldn’t you try and get your hands on it? However, government grants and assistance always require an application process which will cost you time and patience. You also need to make sure you are eligible for that particular program in the first place, or it will be a waste of your valuable time. You will generally need to have an excellent understanding of your business, your target market, your finances and your projected business activity. If you don’t have a business plan you will find the application process difficult.
That being said, there are some great assistance programs out there and you may as well investigate to see what you are eligible for. A great website is the Government Grant Finder, which will allow you to search for relevant and current programs via an online search tool. Check it out at
Even if you find there is no money available for your particular project, don’t forget to check out the other government assistance available such as mentoring, workshops and resources. The various state government websites usually have a wealth of information, even if they can be a little difficult to navigate. Persistance will pay off in this regard! Try: www.business.gov.au as an excellent starting point.
